Bare with me as I sit here and think back 15 years ago writing this blog post about someone who believed in me when I first opened my doors to offering web design service. It was in a little bitty hometown city called Hutto, Texas that holds an amazing amount of local history. It’s also very close and dear to my my heart as I grew up in this one blinking light town when I was only seven years old after my parents divorced, well.. I divorced them and moved to my grandma Mott’s home in Taylor, Texas.
A lot has changed since those days on the farm harvesting corn and delivering it to the local gin in Hutto. The memories are priceless and really hard to explain to anyone who does not know what I’m talking about. Good thing this post is not about me or that far back in time.. Long story short, I visited a local Hutto, Texas business that reached out to me after seeing one of my local ad’s in the newspaper. They wanted to create a website to display their fleet of used commercial trucks they have for sale. When I arrived I was nervous as this was actually my 1st client, someone who I did not know and they of course did not know me from Adam as they say.
The business was a little difficult to get too as it required a u-turn, cross the railroad tracks and down a dirt road. But, it was also very big and when I arrived my gut feeling hit me as in.. hmm, they need more than I can provide when I noticed the huge trucks in their inventory. But, being I am a man of my word I just ignored that feeling.. thank goodness!
I arrived and walked out onto the lot and looked around, did not see anyone so I called and let them know I was there. Turned out they were on the phone with a buyer and asked me to wait just a moment. Moments later out comes a man who really changed my life .. of course, at the time we both had no idea what was about to take place.
His name was Bob Mitchell, and I use the word was as he recently passed away and I’m sadden by that but also it’s a fact of life and also business that we all must deal with. Love and miss him very much, such an amazing man!
Within seconds we both just clicked.. it was like instant friends and he told me “I’m totally clueless as to what you do and what you can do for me and my business partner. His business partner is Rick Tanton, quite guy but very cool just the same.
After a few moments explaining what I do as in web design, hosting, domain management and emails .. he just stopped me and asked how much? I was not sure cause to be honest I did not know what they needed – LOL
We went inside, sat down and a few moments later.. walla, I sold my 1st website, hosting, emails and even a business listing on my local directory. I spent the next hour taking photos, videos and just gathered all I could before heading home to start working on the project. To be more honest, I was still nervous but something just kept that in check as the guys .. I think knew I was just starting out but they believed in me.
Now, to bring you up to speed when Bob passed away Rick brought in his son Bradley and again I was instantly nervous as I thought.. well, things change and in with the new and out with the old. But, I could not have been more wrong.
It’s been a few years now as we’ve reached 15 years of service and even replaced the website a couple of times. Nowadays it’s an honor to have Bradley as one of my most dearest friends. To be perfectly honest we’ve never met yet as I’ve been overseas working on a project for my supplier for 8 years now. I’m homesick and look forward to returning to Texas to shake this mans hand as he’s become my brother from another mother… love you guys!
So, why this post?
Let’s get down to it.. businesses, car salesmen and even restaurants all have the same common thing, being human. It’s just some know that they should not change and other well, they chase the all mighty dollar and forget who’s paying.
With Fleetserve Trucks – that’s just not how they roll. Bradley and his dad Rick have been providing businesses all over the USA with excellent prices on used fleet trucks ( used commercial trucks) to the public, small and large businesses with reliable trucks that are inspected, legal and ready for the road.. if not, they will not sell it to you till it is.
Take a moment, checkout the website we created for them. By the way, Bradley has taken over the updates and we could not be happier as that’s what we’re all about. Empowering our clients to take charge of their websites. From updating inventory, photos, details and overall just taking charge of their web presence. I think, no.. I know Bob would be very proud of them both! I recall the detailed step by step email instructions I used to provide to Bob .. such memories!
In closing.. before you shop the big boys. Ask yourself, have you really shopped around? Are you getting your monies worth, are they going to care about you when you drive off the lot?
Get on over to Fleetserve Truck Sales .. and see for yourself as I’d trust them to sell me anything!
Much love and respect to the Tanton family – most excellent people!
